The borough’s CAB director, Ann Kinahan and her colleagues at the three Sutton branches of the Citizens Advice Bureau embraced environmentally friendly transport to travel to work for the week of Monday 7 July.
Smarter Travel Sutton has been working with the Sutton Citizens Advice Bureau on a workplace travel plan to get their staff travelling more sustainably. Kathryn McLauchlan, Senior Transport Planner, said “We are impressed by the commitment that the CAB staff have shown to changing their travel behaviour for the better. Ann Kinahan is an inspiration for her staff and that’s why we’ve nominated her as a local champion in the London Sustainable Transport Awards and Green Guardian Awards”.
Around 50 other CAB staff and volunteers used sustainable alternatives during their Eco week. Staff travelled by bike, bus, scooter, roller blades, and good old fashioned shoe leather. Staff were rewarded with book tokens and goody bags as well as a hearty breakfast.
Leader of Sutton Council, Sean Brennan said “The council is committed to making the borough cleaner and greener. Environmental and community sustainability is very important to us. Eco travel initiatives like this set a really positive example and embody our ‘take part, take pride in your community’ thinking. The more people who get involved and feel part of the borough, the more we can work together to make it an even better place in which to work and live”.
