Getting to the Airport
Why waste money on airport parking or taxis when you can get to all of London’s airports easily, quickly and cheaply by public transport? Start your holiday early with a relaxing ride to the airport by bus or train. Check out the options below:
Heathrow – the X26 bus provides a direct link between Sutton and Heathrow and a single journey is only £1 with an Oyster Card and £2 cash. The service now runs every 30 minutes between 7am and 7pm and hourly before and after.
It is a limited stop service with stops at Wallington Green, Carshalton High Street, Sutton Post Office, Cheam village, North Cheam and Worcester Park. Journey times are just over an hour from Sutton. Alight at Hatton Cross for Terminal 4 and catch the tube.
Gatwick – National Express coaches provide a direct service between Wallington and Gatwick on their 025 Brighton service. Stops are in Woodcote Road near the junction with Stafford Road.
The service runs approximately every hour and takes 30-40 minutes. Single fares are £7.30 with discounts for over-60s. For times and further details click here.
You can also get to Gatwick easily and quickly by train from Clapham Junction and East Croydon, with good connections by Tramlink from Mitcham Junction (step-free) and West Croydon (steps and short walk).
At night you can catch the N213 bus to East Croydon from where there is a limited all night train service.
Stansted – catch the train to London Victoria or Vauxhall then the Victoria Line to Tottenham Hale, then the Stansted Express to Stansted Airport. Journey time is around 1.5 to 2 hours.
The Stansted Express runs every 15 minutes. You can get through rail tickets which are valid on the underground. Be sure to get a period return if you are going away.
Luton – First Capital Connect provide a direct train service from Sutton to Luton Airport Parkway from where you can catch the airport shuttle bus.
Be sure to get a through ticket to the airport and a period return if you are going away. Journey time from Sutton is about 1.5 hours, but you can often change to/from a faster train at Blackfriars / St. Pancras.
