Cycle Training
To make cycling easy and safe as possible, the London Borough of Sutton has a range of courses and events.
For training and safety, we offer:
· One-to-one ‘learn to ride’ tuition for children, adults and family groups
· Basic cycle training for Year 4 Pupils using games and activities
· An organised 1-hour ride around your local area to teach route planning, hazard detection and advanced road positioning. It’s absolutely free, and to take part, pupils must have passed Level Two of the National Standards in cycling training (what used to be Cycling Proficiency test).
To get children more involved in cycling, we’ll also be happy to:
· Visit your school to do an educational talk with a class or assembly about cycling and, for example, how it benefits the environment, or fits in with the overall transport system
· Work with your school to help teachers integrate cycling into the national curriculum. For example, gears and ratios could be introduced in maths class. Or braking and friction could be part of a physics lesson
· Help set up after-school cycle maintenance clubs to teach basic repairs like fixing punctures or adjusting gears and brakes
· Get involved in organising family fun days and competitions in schools
We can also provide advice and support if any of your school’s staff want to deliver Go Ride coaching for pupils. To do so, they’ll need a British Cycling or National Standards Training Qualification, which we can also help with.
