Department for Transport
Excellent bank of resources, including teaching packs and best practice information, about school travel and STPs. Also has the “Travelling to School: An Action Plan” document (downloadable), the cornerstone publication of the government’s initiative to implement School Travel Plans. There is also a database of lessons with a Road Safety theme – follow links for Road Safety.

Information and guidance on how to get your School Travel Plan accredited. Application forms for the 3 levels with criteria to be met. Links to ECM.

Sustrans and Safer Routes to School
www.sustrans.org.uk www.saferoutestoschools.org.uk Sustrans is a national sustainable transport. Safe Routes To Schools is its long-established school travel project, and has a wealth of information, case studies, ideas and downloadable resources.
Upgrade 7
Teacher, parent and pupil resources to make the transition from primary to secondary school safe, happy and sustainable. Includes themed lesson plans for Y6 and Y7 linked to PSHE and other QCA units of work.
Healthy Schools
Including details about Healthy Schools initiatives. There are many ways that STPs can link to healthy school programmes.
Eco Schools
www.eco-schools.org.uk EcoSchools is a programme to integrate environmentally sustainable principles and practices into school life. It links very well to travel. Sutton’s environmental charity Ecolocal can also tell you more – www.ecolocal.org.uk

Walk to School
Website to encourage walking to school. Includes teaching resources such as literacy and numeracy ideas, and sections for teachers, parents and children.

Organisers (jointly with Travelwise) of the UK initiative for Walk to School Week (linking to the International event) in October.
Citizenship
Excellent site all about teaching citizenship, with lots of links, ideas and resources.
Travelwise
Travelwise is an organisation working to promote travel awareness. They have a Safe Routes to Schools section and are joint organisers for UK Walk to School Week.
